jaWordPressHacks – Fixing bad productivity in WordPress

jaWordPressHacks - Fixing WordPress 6.8's bad decisions

WordPress used to be wonderful. Sure, it was fairly basic, but it allowed for a lot of customisation, allowing you to really make it your own. This was particularly true when it came to the post editor. Then Gutenberg came.

That was the beginning of bad WordPress decisions. Ok, so, Gutenberg isn’t quite as bad as it was when first launched. But lately, it feels like it’s been getting worse. Like the WordPress team is doing everything it can to ruin productivity instead of enhance it.

jaWordPressHacks is a plugin to help override some of those dumb decisions and restore functionality back to the way it should be. The way that makes it easier to do what you want to do as a WordPress admin, and not more difficult.

What does it do?

At the moment, it doesn’t do much, but it does fix some vital productivity issues in WordPress 6.8. Further down the page, you’ll find a list of version numbers, the features that were implemented in them, and the version of WordPress available at the time of release.

These features will evolve over time, and some of these may only be temporary, as the WordPress team reverses dumb decisions and restores things back to the way they worked before. Anyway, in the meantime, I made jaWordPressHacks to fix them – even if only temporarily.

I’m making this plugin for my own needs and make no warranties whatsoever as to its effectiveness for you. And there are no guarantees I’ll fix the thing that’s bugging you about WordPress. It works fine for me and my needs (which is what I’m addressing), but you use it at your own risk. If it kills your site or messes something up, that’s on you, not me. You were warned.

How to download & install the plugin

You can download the plugin here. To install it, simply navigate to the plugins page in your WordPress dashboard, click “Add Plugin” at the top, then “Upload Plugin” and choose the zip file you just downloaded and send it.

No, it’s not available on the WordPress plugin repository. If that’s a problem for you, don’t use it.
